Pumpkin
Pumpkin bread, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin donuts…I even saw a sign that told me I could get my “pumpkin anti-freeze HERE!” Has there ever been so much pumpkin?
But then…who am I kidding? I have been longing for the weather (pumpkin weather?) to cool so that I can wear the beautiful pumpkin-colored cashmere sweater I bought last year at the outlet. It’s luxurious with a thick multi-ply yarn that gives it a gentle bulky look with the most pluperfect, non-itchy faux turtleneck. That combined with the delectable color makes for a real snuggle-into garment for fall. And paired with jeans, it says that I get it’s Pumpkin Season without the overload like the woman I saw recently who was decked in leopard print from head to toe, including a leopard key chain attached to her leopard handbag. It really only takes just one item, doesn’t it?
But what of the rich velvet dress above that’s too lovely for anything as gauche as the annual gala that recently took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art? This beautiful column of autumn femininity is not for a venue that gets more circus-like every year. I know the Met Gala employs a theme that guests adhere to but still. I’ll say no more…
Aside from fashion, I love to make pumpkin bread in the fall. It fills the house with the magical scent of spice and home. If I had a chimney, the fragrance would make me believe that outside a curl of smoke was circling up to a dusky sky among floating leaves. Lately, I’ve been sprinkling pumpkin spice on my morning coffee, just to get in the mood.
So what is the mood of fall? It’s the feeling that life is starting all over again. And if that’s true, then there certainly couldn’t be a better year to embrace pumpkin than this one.
Is “pumpkin” a part of your fall and in what form? Have you a favorite recipe and/or sweater too?

Love that Fall is coming…and making pumpkin muffins – with mini chocolate chips. I enjoy leaving a few at neighbors doors with some pumpkin themed napkins, wrapped in a little bag, tied with pumpkin colored raffia! Have a fabulous Fall!

That dress is pure class. I agree the Met Gala has turned into a circus. A contest as to who can look the most outrageous. After this “above average” summer heat (think we need to redefine “average”) I welcome Autumn with open arms.
Your sweater sounds quite “classy”!

Fall is my favorite season, hands down, and I agree with the quote from “The Great Gatsby” that “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” I agree with Karen, above, who said that probably most of us who loved school when we were little feel this way. I live in the Northern Rockies and it’s been fall-like for a few weeks now. Started drinking pumpkin spice creamer in my coffee, putting a spoonful of canned pumpkin in my yogurt or oatmeal bowls, and putting cinnamon on almost everything (it’s great in chili). Alas, I can’t wear pumpkin orange but did get a new caramel brown sweater!

Autumn, the start of one of my favorite seasons (followed closely by winter of course) and the scent of pumpkin pie, pumpkin cupcakes or just pumpkin spice in the air at home.
I too have been thinking of purchasing some autumnal colored garments this year, wish I could wear and have someplace to go in that beautiful dress on the model though!
Here in New England there are many trees already changing their colors, the nights are becoming much cooler, but the days are still warm enough that a sweater is not yet needed. But soon, all that will change and we will be in the midst of one of the most colorful seasons that nature provides all on her own without the help of man.

Oh, Donna, what a fab-u-lous gown this model is wearing, what a colour. Not everyone can wear this vibrant colour and I’m sure you will look lovely in your cashmere jumper.

I saw that pumpkin antifreeze joke too! It does seem to get a little ridiculous doesn’t it? But I do love to sprinkle pumpkin spice on my cocoa –makes it very delicious, and I love to sprinkle it on my morning oatmeal! Other great items simply waiting for that dash of autumnal flavor are applesauce and whipped cream on waffles! Yum!! I do have a pumpkin-ish hued sweater that is waiting for the 70 and 80° weather to subside, too. I simply love fall! I know that some people think that January is the kick off of the year, but for those of us who loved our school days, the new year starts in September!
