On the Ninth Day of a Feminine Christmas
Have you given up on Christmas yet? Tree down? Wreath hanging by a thread? Not here…
The week between Christmas and New Year’s is still festive and can be a lovely week of reflection, rest, and reading. Curling up with a good novel on the sofa with the lit tree to glance up at is reassuring. Very much when as a child, time slowed and there was a long reprieve from school and homework.
This is also a perfect time to visit others, basket in hand filled with winter delights. Or if there’s snow in your area, sledding or skating.
Take this week to drink hot cocoa and sit and stare at the tree. That is, if you haven’t taken it down yet…

Having an artificial tree enables me to keep it up longer, until January 6th at least. I rise early in the morning, put the christmas tree lights on, keeping all other lights off and drink a warm cup of tea while gazing and refecting upon it’s beauty, remembering other Christmases past.
This is my calm before starting up my day. During the week of Christmas and New Years, I’ll watch old christmas movies that I might not have been able to watch before Christmas day, I’ll purchase some christmas decor that I need to refresh, and I’ll read some of my christmas books.

One of my favorite sweet, quiet moments of the holiday is nestling in with a Grace Livingston Hill novel in a cozy chair with the tree lights glowing across the room. The peace and comfort are such a blessing and I glory in the truth “all is calm, all is bright!” Thanks for this lovely reminder!!

Tree came down today. Wreath will stay on door for a few week and candles in the windows until Spring. Once Christmas Day is over, I like clearing it out, doing a deep cleaning, and enjoying a simple sparse environment. It does seem like the week between Christmas and New Year is a pause and I do enjoy slowing down with books, movies, and copious amounts of hot tea. Loving your 12 Days of a Feminine Christmas series!

Ours is coming down on New Year’s Eve with football Bowl games on in the background – it’s begun to sadly droop and shed needles, although it’s filled with water. Otherwise we’d leave it up until 12th Night.
I’ll slowly take down decorations the first week of January – have already replaced my Christmas china with plain white china. I remember you wrote something years ago about setting one white orchid on your table with a snowy white tablecloth and that stuck with me :). I like simplicity and spareness in January.
