On the Eleventh Day of a Feminine Christmas

Try it on for  sighs…and those sighs would be from Mom and Dad.  This winsome ad captured my imagination when I first saw it a few years ago.  It’s from a British publication depicting a darling girl trying on her first big-girl coat at Christmas – parents, delighted and proud.

I remember receiving my first “little lady” type presents for Christmas when I was about ten years old.  There was a hot pink suede clutch bag with a shiny penny inside, fishnet stockings, Pot-o-Gloss, and a silver charm bracelet which I still wear.

These gifts made Christmas so much more exciting because they offered the promise of a future which at ten, looked a bit electrifying.

The image above portrays all of those wonderful things…

I love that image! And that little girl is so sweet, with her Christmas red tights and happy smile. My mother, a gifted seamstress, made most of my clothes growing up; she even made a fake fur coat for me once. Not quite as modern looking as this, but treasured nonetheless. I don’t remember my first ladylike gifts; I think it’s because much of my time was spent hanging upside down by my knees on the swingset in the backyard, until I was far too old to graciously step into the role of a sweet young lady. My first Pot O Gloss was purchased on my own after the high school vamp loaned me hers and I saw for myself the powerful impact of high-gloss red lips! 💋
