On the Third Day of a Feminine Christmas
Women and Christmas trees have a long-standing connection. On the internet, you will find many entrancing photographs of pleased ladies in their finery posed under their decorated trees. Women and Christmas trees just go together…
Of course, the decorating of the trees falls mostly on women’s shoulders and maybe this is what gives us our deep coupling. But our seasonal greenery also stirs in us reminders of the past. The piney scent drops us back into other snapshots where we are cradling dolls or sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with pajama-clad siblings under tinseled canopies.
Christmas flora and vegetation also remind us of nature’s everlasting generosity which can steady us in our changed world. Deep fir green is a favorite color of mine on Christmas Eve when I evoke holiday bounty through a forest silk blouse or shining-green crystal earrings.
And like our lovely model above, I will be sure to have a snapshot taken of me under the tree.

Oh my gosh, you two! I feel all the beauty and fragrances of the season rising in me as I read. We’re moving this December so I have no tree, no pine boughs, no lights, or other big decor except two ready-made wreaths which can just as readily be boxed up. However…. we are traveling to my daughter’s house who lives in a winter wonderland for Christmas week, AND in the summer I purchased a fabulous vintage emerald green rayon dress with a raised pattern and black velvet neck and wrist trim that I’m bringing with me. Everyone else will be wearing jeans with buffalo plaid or hoodies, but this is me. YAY! I have a black beret, but I think that may be overkill in this setting. 🤣. Merry Christmas to all.

Oh, I just love wearing evergreen at Christmas! I’ve had pine green sweaters, jumpers, and plush forest green velvet dresses in my day. This year, I’m decked out in tunic-style pine green plaid blouse and black velvety slacks for the big day–I’ll be sporting an emerald green beret and matching cashmere-y scarf for the Christmas Eve service with a darling tiny vintage jeweled tree on the lapel of my pea coat in honor of a dear friend, Joanie, who bequeathed her collection to me. Christmas trees are a blessed reminder of the eternal, ever-living love of our Lord Jesus’s birth.
