On the Third Day of a Feminine Christmas

Painted nails have never been a strong suit of mine as much as I admire them on others.  Always feeling antsy in a manicurist chair and not liking the damage I’ve seen on others who utilize gel manicures, I often leave my nails alone and try to keep my hands moisturized.

However, at Christmas, I love a red or burnished cranberry-colored nail.  In season, I try to do this on my own with mostly mixed results.  But when I succeed, I get a lot of joy at peeking at my brightly painted garnet fingertips.

There are only a few influencers that I am aware of who polish their own nails but again, I simply don’t have the patience to follow their somewhat elaborate steps to help keep nail polish on.  It’s not my way and I am ok with that.  There are some things I’ve come to terms with eliminating from my Christmas to-do list and manicures are just one of them.  But oh how I love the lovely picture above.  Still, I would rather be reading A Christmas Carol or enjoying a production of the the Dickens classic than fretting over the polish on my nails.

However, there is another element in the image as well…jewelry.  I troll my jewel box for less-worn or forgotten sparkling treasures.  Sometimes it’s a bright cocktail ring that belonged to my mother or a cut-glass beaded bracelet I may have found at a craft fair once.  Anything bright or sparkling that reminds me of the joyous season and if it’s is a forgotten treasure I’ve found, all the better because it always feels brand new.  I love any garb that mirrors the stars in the night sky at Christmastime.  Even if my nails are pale.

I love this post. I had removed my fading nail polish and repainted my nails just before I opened my laptop so I could sit quietly while it dried and saw this. 😁 I’m with you. I don’t have patience for manicures, and I do my own nails as quickly as possible, with maybe a lapse time for cuticle cream. Now rings…that’s my favorite thing. Merry Christmas, Donna and thank you for this lovely series. Thank you, Ann Y, for the tip on Londontown.

Beautiful photo – and I am of the same mind. I love to bake cookies for gifts at Christmas and so my nails are bare until they are all completed. But then, I love a Christmas Red nail – and always do it myself. I have found a wonderful line by Londontown and the colors last with out all those many steps, but they also have a nail illuminator. Palest pink, milky white – one coat on bare nails and it lasts over a week. Keeps me feeling put together as I dig my mother’s garnet ring out of the jewlery box and try to add sparkle to this magic season. Merry Christmas to you !
